Choose between POLYESTER HOLLOW FILL FIBRE.and POLYURETHANE FOAM ( very hard wearing and cheaper than the fibre, but looks squarer) Both these standard fillings are hypoallergenic, and pretty easy care, although the fibre does benefit from regular plumping.
We vary our FOAM according to thickness and/or purpose, e.g. we would use a soft, springy foam with two layers of wadding for thick sofa seat cushions, like the blue ones on this page, but a firmer foam with a single layer of wadding for a hard bench seat, like the red floral one. We do this automatically, no need to specify.
FIBRE is lighter, rounder and puffy looking - the blue back and arm cushions, and the red/white floral scatters are fibre, pillow type cushions have to be fibre, we can’t use foam where the edge of the cushion tapers away to nothing. Fibre works for seat cushions, too, though, particularly for sofas and armchairs. Doesn’t give very good support when thin and used on a hard surface. Unless you’re rather small and light. See bottom right.
For a bigger ( well, huge actually ) choice of specialist and luxury fillings go to www.cushionzone.co.uk , we’re happy to cover any of these.
