Treat your pre-loved sofa (or nasty landlord furniture) to a glamorous new identity. Choose from 2 styles, 5 weaves and 125 colours or find your own fabric. Urban Sprawl’s self measured loose covers are probably the easiest furniture up-cycle ever - fabric choosing, measuring tape wielding, and zip closing are the only skills you need.
One sofa unit - three different covers.
This style of unit is perfect for measuring yourself, it’s all straight lines, you would just have to follow our chart for “L” unit 1.
In this case customer Cat, whose cat (Horace) had trashed the original upholstery, chose to let the sofa have three different outfits to suit its changing moods. Furniture doesn’t have moods?! Oh. Well the changing seasons, then.
1 - above - the sofa in Boho mood. The loose cover fabric is genuine Kente cloth all the way from Dalston market in East London. That’s a ten minute walk for Cat, or four stops on the 149 bus. The fabric is cheap as chips, but was quilted and interlined to improve wear, and for fire safety. It was worth it, the finished tailored covers are very beautiful and luxurious. The style is plain, though, with no piping.
2 - right - this set of loose covers are a calm neutral colour, and relaxed shabby chic style. The body of the sofa and cushions are all piped, but you can have a mix, piped sofa frame and plain cushion covers or vice versa. Piped style sofa frame covers have kick splits at the corners, a modern reference to the old style pleated valance. The fabric is one from our selection, Vista textured weave, in colour Ash. Glide over any area to see detail.
3 - left - the sofa in vibrant modern mood. The covers are in the plain style, no piping no kick splits. In this style, the bottom hem is extended under the base of the sofa for a few cm and pulled taut with a drawstring to give a neat fit. The fabric is one from our fabric selection, Turin plain weave in colour Fuchsia.
Below is the “before” shot.
Use the magnifier to see the full horror of Horace’s ravages. Actually, it’s quite mild compared to some cat scratching we’ve seen but we’ve been asked not to let him know that he’s not really the worst kitty in the world.
Good to know:
The furniture doesn’t need to be taken away, so no need to take the doors off your house, or any windows out.
No one needs to come to your home with great rolls of fabric and spend hours cutting and pinning in your living room.
Most, but not all, upholstered furniture can have removable covers, whether or not it came with loose covers, but there are exceptions, and there are some styles which need to be professionally measured, we show you which is which.
The route to a new look sofa or chair is pretty straight forward - we’ve made a sort of flow chart, which we hope will help you navigate the site to find the best options - follow the dotted line on the chart for the lowest price! Most of the flow chart’s boxes and icons are live, and will take you to the relevant pages. Just click this icon.
